Comedian Tig Notaro performs set topless after getting heckled

The comedian, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, revealed her mastectomy scars to the audience.

US COMEDIAN TIG Notaro performed half of a recent set topless, revealing scars from her double mastectomy, after getting catcalled by an audience member.

In 2012, Notaro revealed she had breast cancer in a legendary show that fellow comedian Louis CK called a “masterful stand-up set”.

She later got a double mastectomy, and decided not to undergo reconstructive surgery.

The New Yorker reports that at her show on Thursday night, Notaro did a segment about getting patted down by airport security. She said the woman was convinced that Notaro was in the wrong queue, being unable to “feel any boobs” on her person.

After the bit ended, an audience member shouted “Whooo!” to which a surprised Notaro said:

Did you not hear the story I was just telling? You know, it’s funny. I was going to do this show with my shirt off, anyway. I’m about one more ‘Whooo’ away from going topless.

Several members of the audience whooped, at which Notaro ripped off her shirt, revealing her mastectomy scars to the crowd, and continued her set as normal.

Notaro told DailyLife.com that she did it so people would realise “it’s not a big deal”:

…It’s about me coming to terms with becoming OK with my body. If I had a scar on my face, no one would tell me to cover that up. I wanted people to really think about how it’s not a big deal.
